Lessons Learned From Supporting Causes

The truth is that even the smallest of actions can have profound effects. You can be able to turn your hobbies into good deeds that will have a positive effect on the life of others. From nonprofits, brands, to politicians, creating a movement can help you engage in meaningful activity. A movement will drive buzz, awareness, and action. By having these you will be able to attract many people.  To create a movement that supports a good cause, you should understand the role of human behavior and mechanics involved.

Below are some of the reasons why people join movements that support a good cause: They crave community.  This is where many people start. You ensure that as many people join your community. It is not as simple as it sounds. While an online pledge or petition, a tagline, and swag, will get people on your side, you have to do more.  What is it that your movement advocates for? Will people have a deep connection on a personal level? Will the public be passionate about it?

In 2008 for the Obama campaign he sold hope. There was for even the average American and that is why many people supported him. People knew that they had the power to effect change. For the Livestrong initiative, people had to thrive and survive even under overwhelming challenges. The message here resonated well to all persons not only those with cancer. People need to know how they will benefit.  This is the part that most people will not talk about. You stay with the hope that people will support your cause because it is compelling. Another thing is that it is the right thing to do and it is important.

However, this is not enough to make the movement take off.  There are people who will join your movement if the message is right. Politicians have given them the name swing voters. You need to have an extra message for them.  The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society realized there were people who were interested in endurance events. They involve triathlons and marathons. The problem is they did not know how they were going to prepare for them.

When they got information about the events they told their family and friends about it. By this, they were able to raise a lot of money, even though they did not know anyone who was suffering from the disease. People want to do something.  Some movements make the action become so generic that it eventually looses meaning. If you want to become more strategic, you should pair your task with something that people can be able to rally behind.

What you can do is pair your task with something that people can relate with. People will feel connected to your cause once they have something that they relate with.  The truth is that people want to be a part of the wider community and also feel as individuals at the very same time. The truth is that there are different ways in which you can give back even if you do not donate lots of money.
